Camrose, Alberta -- Big Valley Jamboree is pleased to announce that the town of La Glace, Alberta has emerged as the grand-prize winner of Small Town Saturday Night 2017. The community remained at the top of the leaderboard for the major of the contest garnering close to 25 per cent of nearly 130,000 online votes cast, earning them the privilege of hosting the grand-prize concert on April 29, 2017 at the La Glace Arena in support of a new Regional Recreation Centre.
“The facility will replace our existing arena that is in much despair from water and structural issues”, said Tamara Lunde, Member of the La Glace Small Town Saturday Night Organizing Committee. “Even though we are already a tight knit community we believe this new facility will bring us even closer together, and this is why this is so important to us.”
La Glace is a small hamlet of 181 people, with approximately another 1500 people in the surrounding area, located approximately 50 kilometers north east of Grande Prairie. After remaining atop the Small Town Saturday Night Leaderboard for a majority of the contest they were briefly placed in second by the Southern Alberta Community of Duchess Alberta only to rally and regain their lead as the contest closed.
As the 2017 grand-prize winner, La Glace will host their own mini-Big Valley Jamboree featuring performances by country music stars Gord Bamford, Clayton Bellamy, Alee, Dan Davidson and The Doll Sisters. All funds raised from the concert will benefit La Glace & District Agricultural Society. The evening will be hosted by Big Valley Jamboree emcee Danny Hooper.
“The final stages of this contest engaged the entire Province of Alberta to come together and rally behind the communities of Duchess and La Glace Alberta resulting in the largest number of votes in the history of this contest,” explained Chris Melnychuk, Big Valley Jamboree / Trixstar Productions. “In the end La Glace ended up with winning but we need to congratulate all the communities that took part in the contest. We hope that this endeavor caused a surge in community pride and spirit and brought everyone in their home towns even closer together.”
The planning for April 29 concert will begin immediately and tickets are expected to go on sale in the second week of April through the La Glace & District Agricultural Society.
On February 19 a video team from NAIT Radio and Television descended upon Le Glace to create a two minute feature to showcase the community.
