In partnership with Travel Alberta, Big Valley Jamboree is proud to announce the five rural Alberta communities that have qualified as finalists to be selected to host their own mini-Big Valley Jamboree on Saturday, April 28, 2012. The Small Town Saturday Night contest has been wildly successful, as a total of 53 communities from across Alberta submitted video applications to Big Valley Jamboree for the chance to have their town selected to host Small Town Saturday Night.

“We couldn’t have been more pleased with the response to Small Town Saturday Night,” said Panhandle Production’s Larry Werner, Producer of Big Valley Jamboree. “It was a very difficult task for our committee of judges to narrow the field to 10 communities for final voting. There were many exceptionally high quality applications that showcased the tremendous community spirit and enthusiasm from rural Alberta.”

Voting opened on the BVJ website on Tuesday, March 6 and concluded at midnight on Tuesday, March 20. After more than 100,000 total votes, the five communities that earned the most votes were, in alphabetical order: Bashaw, Bonnyville, Devon, High River and Legal.

“Albertans have shown tremendous support for these communities, and we thank everyone who voted for their favourite,” said Jack Hayden, Minister of Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation. “These towns have done an outstanding job of highlighting what makes them unique.  We look forward to celebrating with one lucky and deserving community on Small Town Saturday Night!”

The winning community will be announced on Tuesday, April 3 at the Growing Rural Tourism Awards Dinner in Camrose, AB.
