Alberta’s small towns showcase the down-home hospitality and authentic western flavour that Alberta has become known for the world-over, but which one has what it takes to be the best? Small Town Saturday Night 2013, presented by Travel Alberta and Panhandle Productions LP., (collectively, the “Sponsors”), is a unique and exciting Contest designed to find out which small Albertan community stands above all the others. Small Town Saturday Night 2013 (the “Contest”) will seek out the most creative and enthusiastic small town in Alberta.

Any Entry Materials that are deemed inappropriate by the Sponsors or are not suitable for a family audience will be disqualified at the sole discretion of the Sponsors. All Entry Materials shall become the property of the Sponsors and will not be returned to Entrants. Entry Materials may be used by the Sponsors in accordance with these Contest Rules.

Note: Entrants should refrain from submitting any photographs with their Entry Materials that show any clothing items bearing business, designer, or sports logos or designs (other than logos or designs owned by the Entrant) or that otherwise include intellectual property rights, personality rights or other third party rights which Entrant does not own or control. All Entry Materials must: (i) be original with the applicable Entrant; (ii) not have been previously published or won any other prize/award; and (iii) not infringe copyright, intellectual property rights, personality rights or other third party rights (including without limitation privacy, consent from people appearing in the material, personality or other property or civil rights) of any other party, including but not limited to any person, group, entity, or company. All uses of the Travel Alberta and Big Valley Jamboree logos are subject to approval by the Sponsors.
To be valid, all entries must be received in full at the applicable destination above by February 28, 2013, at 1:59:59 p.m. MST. All entries must also comply with YouTube terms and regulations.
All entries must define a local beneficiary. This beneficiary may be a local charity, non-profit organization or municipal community funded project for event proceeds. Entrants must either be a member or employee of the local beneficiary, or be acting with their express endorsement and consent. A letter of endorsement is required in both cases.

The In-house Panel will select the Top Ten (10) Entries, (the “Top Ten”) from all the eligible entrant applications received by 1:59:59 PM MST on February 28, 2013. Each of the Top Ten Entries will correspond to the Community that Entrant endorses. These Top Ten will move on to the next stage of the Contest. The In-house Panel will select the Top Ten by evaluating each Entrant’s video and application on the Judging Criteria (Community spirit and involvement, showcase local attractions/experiences that appeal to visitors, originality). The decisions of the In-house Panel are in its sole discretion and are final (see Section 7, General Rules, below).
Each Entrant who’s Entry Materials have led to his or her Community being selected to the Top Ten will be contacted by telephone and/or email to inform him or her of such selection no later than March 5, 2013.
Note: The Sponsors are not obligated to notify Entrants that are not selected to the Top Ten.
The Grand Prize Winning Community will be determined from among the Top Ten by audience vote. Voting begins on March 6, 2013 at 12:00:00 p.m. MST and ends on March 25, 2013 at 11:59:59 pm MST. During that period, the general public are invited to review the Entry Materials of the Top Ten posted on the Website (www.bigvalleyjamboree.com/stsn) and use the Judging Criteria to vote for their favourite entry. After the votes are tallied, the Community with the highest number of votes after voting closes on March 25th, 2013 at 11:59:59 PM MST will be declared the Tentative Winner.
To confirm their eligibility the Tentative Winnerwill be contacted by phone.
If the Tentative Winner cannot be reached within 72 hours of 11:59:59 PM MST March 25, 2013, or otherwise fails to comply with the Official Contest Rules, the prize will be forfeited to the entry with next highest vote tally. If necessary this process will be repeated until a winner is chosen from the top ten finalists. Should a winner not be found by April 1, 2013 the prize will be forfeited and not fulfilled
The successful winner must provide the Sponsors with a certificate of insurance for the grand-prize concert as a condition of accepting the award. Failure to have insurance in place will result in an automatic disqualification.
The contest is open to all residents of the Province of Alberta, except employees of, immediate family members of or those residing with an employee of Travel Alberta, Panhandle Productions LP., event sponsors and each of their respective affiliates or advertising/ promotional agencies. “Immediate family” is defined as parents, siblings, children, spouse or common-law partner.
The Community being designated by the Entrant must be in the Province of Alberta in Canada and have an official population less than 20,000 people.
Camrose, Alberta, and previous contest winning communities are not eligible for this contest.
The Entrant must be a legal resident of the Province of Alberta, Canada eighteen (18) years of age or older as of November 25, 2012.
The Sponsors have full and sole authority to determine if the Entrant and Community entered in the Contest are eligible to participate, and if the appropriate authorizations and information can be obtained from the owners of the proposed Venue, if applicable.
One (1) grand prize winning Community will be chosen by audience votes from the Top Ten (the “Grand Prize Winning Community”). The Grand Prize Winning Community will win the following prizes (collectively, the “Grand Prize”):
The approximate value of the Grand Prize is $75,000.00 which is based on the Sponsors’ fees and expenses for staging the Small Town Saturday Night concert and subject to the travel requirements of participating Artists, the location and seating capacity of the venue hosting the concert.
The Grand Prize must be accepted as awarded. The Grand Prize is not convertible to cash and has no cash value. No transfer or substitution of any part of the Grand Prize is permitted by the winner. The Sponsor reserves the right to substitute any part of the Grand Prize with a prize of equal or greater value.
In addition to the Grand Prize, the Grand Prize Winning Community may be featured on a television broadcast at a date to be determined by the Sponsors in their sole discretion.
Note: Sponsors shall have the right, in their sole discretion, to determine whether any use of Small Town Saturday Night 2013 concert tickets is noncompliant with these Contest Rules.
All prize-winning finalist Entrants will be required to sign certain legal agreements and other appropriate documentation with Panhandle Productions LP should they choose to accept the prize.
The odds of winning a prize are directly related to the number of Entrants, the application of Judging Criteria by the In House Panel and the number of audience votes.
Vote Determining the Winner
The information below applies to the public vote for the winner of Small Town Saturday Night and forms part of the Official Rules for Small Town Saturday Night 2013. The public voting period will be from March 6, 2013 at 12:00:00 PM MST to March 25, 2013 at 11:59:59 p.m. MST (the “Voting Period”).
Voters can vote for their favourite Community within the Top Ten online as follows:
VOTERS CAN VOTE FOR THEIR FAVOURITE COMMUNITY ONLY ONCE PER DAY.
At their sole discretion, Sponsors have the right to disqualify any voting that they deem to be fraudulent, in violation of the Official Rules or that would otherwise undermine the integrity of the Contest.
All eligible votes will be accumulated. The Community that receives the highest number of eligible votes during the Voting Period will be named Small Town Saturday Night Winner 2013. The Grand Prize Community will be announced upon confirmation of the winning community.
Entrants complete their applications and prepare and submit a two (2) minute video to Small Town Saturday Night 2013 via online submission.
In-House Panel chooses Top Ten entries. Top Ten Entrants will be contacted to confirm the availability of their designated venue for the date of the Grand Prize concert.
Vote for your favourite Communities in the Top Ten beginning at 12:00:00 p.m. MST on March 6, 2013, and ending at 11:59:59 p.m. MST on March 25, 2013. Voting will be conducted online. Sponsors have the right to disqualify any voting that they deem to be fraudulent, in violation of the Official Rules or that would otherwise undermine the integrity of the Contest, at their sole discretion.
Voting will be verified and winner announced.
Top Ten Communities by votes will be recognized at the Travel AB Growing Rural Tourism Conference in Camrose, AB.
Small Town Saturday Night 2013 to be held at local venue in winning Community (see Section 3, Conditions of Eligibility, above)
Grand Prize Winning Community will be profiled at 2013 Big Valley Jamboree.
|7.1||The Sponsors reserve the right to change the structure, process, timing, duration or any other aspect of the Contest in their sole and absolute discretion. Additionally, the Sponsors reserve the right to suspend, cancel or postpone the 2013 Small Town Saturday Night Concert in their sole and absolute discretion. If the whole or any part or parts of any activity relating to the Grand Prize is/are cancelled, for any reason, the Grand Prize Winning Community shall not be entitled to a refund or rescheduling of the event or compensation of any kind.|
|7.2||The Sponsors reserve the right to amend the Contest Rules or terminate the Contest without notice at any time without any liability or responsibility to any Entrant. The Sponsors further reserve the right to replace at their discretion any Entrant who for any reason fails or is disqualified from or unable to participate in any aspect of the Contest, as determined by the Sponsors in their sole and absolute discretion, with another Entrant, notwithstanding that such replacement Entrant may have been previously eliminated from the Contest.|
|7.3||It is a condition of entry and participation in the Contest that Entrants make themselves available to participate in the Contest, agree, sign and abide by all applicable Release Forms and these Contest Rules as devised from time to time by the Sponsors. Entrants agree to execute all documents necessary to assign any and all prizes to the appropriate Community. As part of the contribution to the Contest, the Sponsors may request Entrants to participate, free of charge, in any activity relating to the Contest including without limitation recordings and participation in interviews, appearances, promotional and publicity activities.|
|7.4||The Sponsors will have no liability to an Entrant who is unable to attend or take part in any part of the Contest for whatever reason, as determined by the Sponsors in their sole and absolute discretion.|
|7.5||The Sponsors’ and In-House Panel’s decisions (or, where appropriate, the decision of the audience voting, as recorded by the voting service provider) are final and the Entrants acknowledge that the interests of the Contest shall override those of any Entrant. The Sponsors reserve the right to consult with the In-House Panel in the matter of the selection of the Top Ten Communities; however, the decisions of the In-House Panel are in its sole and absolute discretion and are final. Where the integrity of the audience voting system is compromised or the audience voting system is otherwise not functioning, as determined by the Sponsors in their sole and absolute discretion, the Sponsors reserve the right to make all final decisions in relation to the Contest. If, as a result of an error relating to the entry process, drawing or any other aspect of the contest, there are more potential winners of prizes than contemplated in these contest rules, there will be a random draw amongst all eligible prize claimants after the contest closing date to award the prize.|
|7.6||Each Entrant agrees that, to the extent permitted by law, the Sponsors and their agents can use, exploit, and distribute in any media whatsoever, including but without limitation over the Internet, now known or hereafter created, worldwide in perpetuity, the Entrant’s Entry Materials, name, likeness, image, voice, comments and appearances without any further consent or compensation. Further, by entering the Contest, each Entrant represents and warrants that each individual who is included in photographs, videotapes, or any type of media for Entrant’s submissions (each an "Other Individual," and collectively, the “Other Individuals”) has as of the date of Entrant’s submission, agreed that the Sponsors and their agents can use, exploit, and distribute in any media whatsoever, including without limitation over the Internet, now known or hereafter created, worldwide in perpetuity, such Other Individual’s name, likeness, image, voice, comments without any further consent or compensation. By entering, all Entrants agree to waive any and all copyright interest, of any nature or kind, they may have in their Entry Materials, including but not limited to essays, videos, lyrics and music composed by the Entrants, and appearances, including without limitation any moral rights in the foregoing, and unconditionally assign such rights and interests to Sponsors. By entering the Contest, each Entrant represents and warrants that each Other Individual has, as of the date of Entrant’s submission, agreed to waive any and all copyright interest, of any nature or kind, they may have in any Entry Materials provided in connection with the Contest, including but not limited to essays, videos, lyrics and music composed by such Other Individual or an Entrant, and appearances, including without limitation any moral rights in the foregoing.|
|7.7||Sponsors shall own all rights, including copyright, in the Entry Materials including but not limited to essays, videos, lyrics and music composed by the Entrants. Sponsors shall have the right to edit or extract Entry Materials for use in perpetuity without compensation to Entrants.|
|7.8||There is no obligation on the part of the Sponsors to record or broadcast the appearance or participation of any particular Entrant in connection with the Program.|
|7.9||All Entrants shall sign a document declaring that they have read, understood and complied with the Contest Rules and attesting to their eligibility as stipulated in these Contest Rules.|
|7.10||Entrants acknowledge that the Contest Sponsors and each of their directors, officers, employees, agents and members are not responsible for and are in no way liable for any injuries (including death), loss or damages arising from the Contest or the Program and agree to release and hold harmless all such Contest Sponsors from any liability in connection with the Contest, the Program or any prize awarded.|
|7.11||Each prize must be accepted “as is” and may not be exchanged for an amount of money, auctioned, bartered, sold or transferred and are non-refundable. No substitutions will be allowed.|
|7.12||Any costs or expenses incurred by the winner in claiming or using his/her prize will be the responsibility of the winner. Travel Alberta in their sole and absolute discretion, may make available event planning personnel and up to $10,000 towards event activation. Expenses must have prior approval from Travel Alberta and will be reimbursed only if accompanied by an original and valid receipt.|
|7.13||Refusal to accept a prize release the Contest Sponsors and each of their directors, officers, employees, agents and members of all responsibility and obligations toward the winner of such prize.|
|7.14||All information requested by and supplied to the Sponsors by each Entrant must be truthful, accurate, and in no way misleading. The Sponsors reserve the right to disqualify any Entrant or Community from the Contest in their sole and absolute discretion, should the Entrant or Community at any stage supply untruthful, inaccurate, or misleading details and/or information or should the Entrant or Community be or become ineligible at any stage of the Contest pursuant to the Contest Rules.|
|7.15||The Contest Sponsors shall not be liable for any losses, delays, mistaken addresses, typographical errors, errors on printed or electronic material, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other mistake. Any attempt by a participant to deliberately damage the Website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest, including but not limited to any fraudulent claims, may be a violation of criminal and civil laws. If such an attempt is made, the Contest Sponsors reserve the right to seek remedies and damages from any such individual, to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.|
|7.16||Under no circumstances, including negligence, shall the Contest Sponsors be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages that result from the use of or inability to use the Website, nor assume any liability for any personal injury or property damage or losses of any kind, including without limitation, direct, indirect, consequential, incidental or punitive damages which may be sustained to an Entrant’s or any other person’s electronic equipment resulting from user’s attempt to either participate in the Contest or download any information in connection with participating in the Contest or use of the Website. Without limiting the foregoing, everything on the Website is provided, “as is” without any warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.|
|7.17||The Contest Sponsors shall assume no liability whatsoever for any situation in which their inability to act results from an event or situation unforeseeable or beyond their control, including but not limited to force majeure, a strike, lockout or any other labour dispute at their location or the locations of the businesses whose services are used to hold this Contest.|
|7.18||Any on-line submission or other materials used in this Contest that have been tampered with, altered, reproduced, not legitimately obtained, or which contain or reflect any error will be void. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the Contest Sponsors reserve the right to cancel or suspend this Contest for any reason including fraud, technical failures, any network server or hardware failure, viruses, bugs, errors in programming, or any other errors or other causes beyond the control of the Contest Sponsors that may corrupt the administration, security, or proper execution of the Contest.|
|7.19||All personal information, such as name and e-mail address is collected solely for the purposes of administering this Contest and shall not be used for any other purpose unless the individual providing it consents to other uses. By providing this information, all Entrants consent to it being used for the purposes of administering this Contest.|
|7.20||In the event of any dispute concerning the operation of any element of the Contest or these Contest Rules, the decision of the Sponsors will be final.|
|7.21||All applicable federal, provincial, and local laws apply to this contest.|
