Small Town Saturday Night

For 20 years, Big Valley Jamboree has enjoyed the support of hundreds of thousands of loyal fans from across North America. A major part of that support comes from rural communities throughout Alberta. As a “thank-you” for this ongoing support, Travel Alberta and The Big Valley Jamboree have decided to award one of these communities with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to put your small town on the map.

That’s why in again in 2013 we’ll bring a “mini” Big Valley Jamboree to one lucky rural Alberta community. All the excitement of the festival, including some of Canada’s finest country musical entertainers could be coming to YOUR small town!  We call it “Small Town Saturday Night,” you’ll call it “one incredibly unforgettable, amazing, mind-blowing experience!”

Simply pick up your video camera and show us why you think YOUR community is the best place for the Big Valley Jamboree “Small Town Saturday Night” experience! Upload the video to YouTube, get your friends, neighbours, and your entire community to vote for your video online and win! The competition promises to be a lot of fun, culminating in an incredible “Small Town Saturday Night” somewhere in rural Alberta on April 27, 2013.

Video Submission Guidelines

Showcase your community and tell everyone why your community is the best candidate for Travel Alberta and The Big Valley Jamboree’s Small Town Saturday Night. Videos are limited to 2 minutes in length. Here are a few basics on what you should include in your video submission:

  • Name and Location of your community
  • Showcase local events and attractions that would appeal to visitors
  • Showcase community spirit and the community’s involvement in this project
  • Show support and knowledge of Country Music and Big Valley Jamboree
  • Be creative

Local Charity, Non-Profit or Municipally Community Funded Project

The involvement of a legitimate local charity, non-profit organization or municipal community-funded project is required in this project so that proceeds from concert ticket sales of Small Town Saturday Night will go towards that charity and not a to a group of individuals. The chosen organization shall receive all proceeds from ticket sales for the concert portion of the event. In return that charity should work with Big Valley Jamboree to plan the event, as well as provide volunteers to work on the event.

Third Party Sponsors

You are welcome to attach any locals sponsors to this event in your community as you see fit.  For example a local restaurant may wish to donate food for the day. However all sponsors must be approved by Panhandle Productions LP.. Any unauthorized sponsor signage will be removed.


Event Program

In an ideal situation Small Town Saturday Night would run similarly to a single day of Big Valley Jamboree.  However depending on the destination, venue restrictions, space restrictions, and other variables the event program will have to be custom tailored to the winning community.

An example of what a Small Town Saturday Night in your community could look like is as follows.  This is an example only and may be modified by Travel Alberta or Big Valley Jamboree event organizers as they see fit.

3:00 PM – Acoustic Performance / Autograph Session Kick Off (at secondary venue, possibly local school)

5:30 PM – Doors open to Venue for Ticket Holders

6:30 PM – Supper organized by local committee for Ticket Holders

8:00 PM – Show Starts

8:15 PM – Songwriters Circle Hosted by Clayton Bellamy featuring Alee, Bobby Wills, and Tenille

9:30 PM – 2013 Small Town Saturday Night Headliner -Chad Brownlee

11:00 PM – Event ends

As mentioned this is only a framework. There may be options to include 50/50 Draws, Beer Gardens, and whatever else  local organizers are willing to undertake.


Important Dates

  • January 1, 2013 to February 28, 2013

    Entrants complete their applications and prepare and submit a two (2) minute video to Small Town Saturday Night 2013 via online submission.

  • March 1 to March 4, 2013

    In-House Panel chooses Top Ten entries. Top Ten Entrants will be contacted to confirm the availability of their designated venue for the date of the Grand Prize concert.

  • March 6 to 25, 2013

    Vote for your favourite Communities in the Top Ten beginning at 12:00:00 p.m. MST on March 6, 2013, and ending at 11:59:59 p.m. MST on March 25, 2013. Voting will be conducted online. Sponsors have the right to disqualify any voting that they deem to be fraudulent, in violation of the Official Rules or that would otherwise undermine the integrity of the Contest, at their sole discretion.

  • March 26 to 28, 2013

    Voting will be verified and winner announced.

  • April 9, 2013

    Top Ten Communities by votes will be recognized at the Travel AB Growing Rural Tourism Conference in Camrose, AB.

  • April 27, 2013

    Small Town Saturday Night 2013 to be held at local venue in winning Community (see Section 3, Conditions of Eligibility, above)

  • August 1 to; 4, 2013

    Grand Prize Winning Community will be profiled at 2013 Big Valley Jamboree.
