Small Town Saturday Night a Spectacular Success
SMALL TOWN SATURDAY NIGHT A SPECTACULAR SUCCESS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Camrose, May 9, 2012 -- After winning-over contest judges and voters with their innovative take on Toby Keith’s “Red Solo Cup” and their heartfelt pleas for a new school playground, the Town of Legal successfully raised over $93,000.00 at the inaugural Small Town Saturday Night Grand Prize Concert on Saturday, April 28, 2012.
Headlined by multi-CCMA Award winning artist Dean Brody, the concert was just one of a full day of events, including a silent auction, songwriter’s circle and autograph session that raised funds benefitting The Friends of Legal School Society. Owing to this momentous surge in fundraising, construction of the new playground is slated to begin in September of 2012.
Larry Werner, Producer of Big Valley Jamboree, said of the experience, “The Small Town Saturday Night initiative is one which Big Valley Jamboree, Travel Alberta and our corporate partners are very proud of. It was wonderful to see such a widespread demonstration of community pride and spirit. Our sincere thanks go out to all communities that entered the contest and especially to the Town of Legal whose hard work and support made the first Small Town Saturday Night such a memorable one.”
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the success of Small Town Saturday Night,” said Bruce Okabe, Chief Executive Officer of Travel Alberta. “Not only did this contest call attention to some of Alberta’s most vibrant small communities, it also mobilized the Town of Legal to achieve a long-standing goal that will benefit the community for many years to come.”
Trina Jones of the Legal Small Town Saturday Night Committee commented, “The Small Town Saturday Night event far exceeded all of our expectations. Our children are always first in our minds and now their dream playground is about to become a reality. The way this project pulled our community together has truly created a legacy for the town of Legal.”
“The Friends of Legal School Society and the children of the Legal School are very excited to hear that our playground is going to become a reality,” noted Helene Goian, Chairperson of the Friends of Legal School Society. “We have worked extremely hard at fundraising for over five years. Thank you to everyone involved in helping make our dream come true.”
Mayor of Legal Lisa Magera stated, “Winning Small Town Saturday Night has done so much for our community. The fundraising part is a very obvious benefit and the school will finally have its new park. What impressed me the most, though, was the way our community pulled together. The spirit and pride in Legal that has blossomed through this experience is very heartwarming. Big Valley Jamboree and Travel Alberta have put us on the map and into the hearts of many Albertans. This once in a lifetime opportunity has left us with lasting memories we will cherish forever!”
Planning for the 2013 Small Town Saturday Night contest is currently underway and it is set to be launched at the Big Valley Jamboree in August.
